
Marnie was the smallest moon whale in the Bluefall Sea, with silver freckles along her fins and a voice so soft that even bubbles leaned close to hear it.

She lived beside the coral clock towers, where the tide bells chimed whenever moonlight touched the water.

More than anything, Marnie wanted to help the night keepers, but she was usually given tiny jobs, like polishing pearl shells.
One midnight, while she swept sand from a sleeping anemone, three sparks tumbled from the sky and sank past her nose.
